Extreme IX – Megaport Acquisition: Partner FAQ
What is happening?
Extreme IX was acquired by Megaport, a global leader in Network as a Service (NaaS). Extreme IX is becoming part of the Megaport family while continuing to operate and serve our existing ecosystem of partners and customers.
Who is Megaport?
Megaport is a leading global Network as a Service provider. Its software defined network (SDN) enables fast, flexible, on demand connectivity between data centers, cloud providers, and enterprise networks. Megaport currently operates across 1,000+ enabled locations, with 410+ service providers in over 26 countries.
Why is Extreme IX joining Megaport?
Extreme IX has grown to become India’s leading carrier neutral, data center neutral Internet Exchange platform, interconnecting hundreds of networks across multiple cities. Joining Megaport allows us to:
- Give our partners and members access to a global SDN platform
- Offer on demand connectivity to major cloud and network services globally
- Accelerate feature rollout and innovation while maintaining local focus in India
The goal is to combine Extreme IX’s strong India footprint with Megaport’s global reach and NaaS capabilities to create more value for our shared ecosystem.
What changes for my existing Extreme IX services today?
Nothing changes in how you use Extreme IX:
- Your existing ports, VLANs, peering sessions, and routing policies remain unchanged.
- Existing SLAs and service terms continue to apply.
- Your technical and account contacts at Extreme IX stay the same.
Any future changes will be communicated well in advance.
Will pricing or commercial terms change?
There is no planned change to existing pricing or commercial agreements as a result of this announcement.
Will this acquisition affect services we receive from Extreme Labs?
No. Extreme Labs is a separate sister company and is not part of the Megaport acquisition. All products and services you receive from Extreme Labs (CacheMaster, NetSense, etc) will continue as they are today, with the same legal entity, contracts, pricing, billing, and support contacts. The acquisition of Extreme IX does not change or interrupt any Extreme Labs engagements.
Does Extreme IX remain neutral?
Yes. Extreme IX will continue to operate as a carrier neutral, data center neutral Internet Exchange platform, open to all qualifying networks with their own AS and address space. Neutrality is a core part of our value proposition and remains unchanged under Megaport’s ownership.
What benefits does this bring to network, content, and cloud partners?
Network operators, CDNs, and cloud or SaaS providers gain:
- Continued access to India’s leading IX footprint, including key hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and other major metros.
- Easier pathways to extend your services globally using Megaport’s platform and ecosystem.
- The ability, over time, to package direct peering at Extreme IX with on demand cloud and WAN connectivity through Megaport.
Will my existing contract stay with Extreme IX or move to Megaport?
At this stage, your existing contracts remain in place with the same contracting entity you have today (Extreme Infocom Pvt. Ltd.). If any novation or migration of contracts is proposed in the future, this will be handled through a clear legal and operational process with your consent and full documentation.
Will there be any service disruption during integration?
We do not expect service disruptions as a result of the transaction. Any planned maintenance or integration activities that could affect services will follow our normal maintenance notification processes and windows.
What new capabilities can partners expect over time?
While details will be announced later, examples of potential future capabilities include:
- On demand private connectivity from Extreme IX locations to major cloud providers using Megaport
- Easier interconnection between Extreme IX sites and Megaport enabled data centers, in India and globally
- Bundled offers that combine peering, cloud access, and data center interconnects for joint customers
Who do I contact if I have questions about the acquisition?
Please continue to use your usual Extreme IX commercial or technical points of contact.
